Edmund
Dulac was born in Toulouse, France in 1892.His
earliest drawings are from his teens, He studied law for two
years while attending classes at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. He
won the 1901 and 1903 Grand Prix for his paintings, mostly
watercolors, which he favoured thoughout his career. In 1904 he
went to London and the start of a meteoric career. At age 22 he
was given a commission for 60 colour illustrations. He alo drew
caricatures, and portraits and designed costumes and sets for
the theatre. He also designed stamps, playing cards, chocolate
boxes, medals and graphics for the Mercury Theatre. He died in
1953.
